HIA Awards 2013 – Winner: Renovated Bathroom $30,000 – $45,000

KBDi Kitchen and Bathroom Design Awards 2013 – Small Bathroom Design – Highly Commended

The homeowners are a young, professional couple so the challenge was to design and build a bathroom that made the most of the small room, while reflecting the clients’ lifestyles as well as the coastal surroundings. With no compromise on function or style, the bathroom enhances the clients’ sense of freedom and allows them to work in harmony – a must for the time-poor.

Brilliant SA’s solution includes enough accessories and storage to suit two people, plenty of natural light via the creation of a large window and retention of an existing skylight, effective heating inclusions and a large bath. In addition, the clever design allowed for the toilet to be added within the bathroom’s footprint while the sleek, modern look ensures the bathroom will continue to provide visual and functional enjoyment over time.

Mirrored cabinets stretch over the basin and toilet to provide generous storage with the bonus of the reflection adding to the visual impression of space. A false wall allows for this cabinet to be recessed to provide as much storage space as possible.

Modifications to the original window allow for additional ventilation and help the natural daylight stream into the bathroom while the translucent laminate glass ensures privacy. Reconstituted marble floor tiles represent sand on the beach while a “wave” wall tile creates a feature in the back of the niches.

Under-floor heating, with thermostatic controller, was installed for comfort, towel drying and to provide a sense of luxury.

Designed by Jordan Smith and built by Brilliant SA.
