STYLISH RETREAT

Set beachfront in Adelaide’s northern beaches this two storey home was in need of an ensuite update. The original was, in the opinion of the owners, dysfunctional and not particularly aesthetically pleasing. Our clients, both time poor shift workers in their 50’s, wanted their upstairs ensuite to have a sleek and stylish retreat like feel.

The clients requests upon consultation were underfloor heating, mood lighting, storage and the absence of a shower screen. Perhaps the single most important desire and what went on to shape the design was the importance of an ocean view from the bath.

In order to achieve all of these requests, a “T” shaped wall was designed to conceal the shower and toilet spaces. This created an alcove for the shower, consequently eliminating the need for a screen. It also created a feature wall for the placement of the freestanding bath. The front of this wall was clad with textured split-face Travertine marble and framed with New Age Veneer. The framed bath niche was backed with a unique bronze mirror and lit with soft LED strip lighting.

His and hers vanities were designed with the Laufen vessels floating through the solid surface benchtops. All plumbing and fixings are concealed, creating a seamless and sleek look from every angle. Other storage included recessed mirrored wall cabinets and a set of crafted drawers that are floating under the benchtops. Beneath the mirrored wall cabinets, open shelves were fitted with LED strip mood lighting. A shower niche, heated towel bars and underfloor heating complete the client’s brief.

THE RESULT

Collectively, the design and materials have given the client that stylish retreat and spa style experience, all with an ambient ocean view from within their feature bath.
